Cultural Champion Award
On Friday 2 March 2012, Arts & Business celebrated support for the arts across the South West at a special reception hosted by Don Foster MP at the beautiful Holburne Museum in Bath. The Cultural Champions initiative is designed to provide arts organisations with an opportunity to recognise the support of their donors and volunteers.
Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory nominated Julian Thomas as Cultural Champion in 2012. Jules has been an extremely generous supporter of the company over many years, giving his valuable time to volunteer during SATTF seasons through ticket-tearing, selling programmes and merchandise. Jules is also a Patron and is a generous enthusiast of SATTF’s Education work.
‘I am very happy to support Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory’s excellent productions and its educational work in any way that I can.’ Jules Thomas
In 2010 SATTF nominated volunteer coordinator and great supporter Leela Grant as a Cultural Champion.
Fifteen new Champions were recognised for outstanding work and support for the arts in the South West, seven of which are linked to Bristol organisations. All of the champions pictured above are from within the Tobacco Factory Building; including Catherine Johnson in support of Myrtle Theatre and Adrian Mantle in support of the Tobacco Factory Theatre. Certificate awards were presented by James Taljaard, Senior Consultant for Arts & Business.
Quote from A&B website: "The arts in this country could not survive without the passionate support of thousands of people who generously give their time, expertise and money to help our cultural organisations flourish through difficult times. Over the past three years we have celebrated over 200 champions who have given their support and passion to their local cultural landscape. It is vital for us to support and celebrate them as they not only inspire tomorrow’s champions, but also everyone else in the community."
