Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory (SATTF) Saturday Morning Workshops
SATTF offers a unique, annual workshop programme for young people aged 13 - 18 years every Saturday morning from October to May. Participants can join any time until the end of January 2014 and the courses run over Saturday mornings until the beginning of May 2014.
The Saturday Morning Workshops run alongside SATTF's annual seasons and offer students exclusive access to a professional, classical theatre company during our dynamic period of rehearsals and production. Our professional actors work with workshop participants to encourage, stimulate and inspire them to participate in the unique world of theatre. Students are encouraged to embrace the ethos of the company - commitment, respect, and a professional attitude. We hope they'll create new friendships and learn from one another, while developing valuable skills and a love of theatre.
Each year participants work with members of the company to devise their own play which is performed in the main Tobacco Factory Theatre in front of an invited audience on the final day of the SATTF season.
The Season Workshops are recognised by Arts Award and SATTF is an Arts Award Supporter.
'It's the best drama workshop I've ever been to and I would encourage others to give it a go.'
Workshop student, James Wearmouth who appeared in our acclaimed 2013 production of Richard III as young Prince Edward.
'After warming up the body, voice and then the imagination via some games, we have developed a style of letting the group improvise various scenarios, usually stemming from their own ideas, some of which we will then develop further. From these we will eventually find a theme that links them together, from which we will eventually make a play. This play will be performed on the main Tobacco Factory stage on the final day of the Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory season.'
